Hi, I’m Max.
I launched The Slow Internet in January 2025 as my personal website and connecting hub to various internet outposts. I created this site as a decentralized home on the web—my small, personal contribution towards a different vision for the internet, one that is governed not by a few dominant platforms, but by individuals and the infinite ways they can express themselves through personal digital spaces.
My interest in this has evolved over time and is largely fueled by a nostalgia for the early internet: the creativity, optimism, and sense of boundless discovery that it promised. My first years as an internet user were informed by these things, and the communities I found via chatrooms, the early blogosphere, and platforms like LiveJournal, Bolt, and TypePad. The internet has obviously changed significantly since that time, but I’ve been delighted to discover that the seeds of these movements are still growing, and there seems to be a resurgence in this kind of DIY mentality. The “Notes” section of this site is primarily dedicated to discoveries that feel representative of this ethos.
Non-Exhaustive Additional Context
I was born in Buffalo, New York in 1988. I moved to Brooklyn in 2006 to study photography and lived there until 2025. I currently live in Manhattan with my boyfriend Kyle and our dog, Tucker.
My interests bend mostly towards the creative, and much of my professional life has been focused on writing, photography, and various modes of content creation in the design space.
I’m verrry much a homebody. The act of ~nesting~ and tending to my lived environment (both physical and digital) has long been a primary concern, whether it was my teenage bedroom or my current apartment. I strongly identify with the Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Bear and love blankets, candles, and very dim lighting (much to the chagrin of people who enjoy being able to see things). I’ve spent a truly stupid amount of time forming opinions about lightbulbs (ask me!) and my overzealous distaste for bright, overhead lighting borders on the pathological.
Some of my favorite things to do are read in the park, go to the movies, and absorb unhealthy levels of ultraviolet light at Brighton Beach. I live in a big city, but often like to pretend I live in a small village by limiting most of my adventures to what is within walking distance. Despite the fact that my wardrobe is almost entirely black and white, I’d say that my favorite color is red. My favorite food is probably spaghetti, or pizza.
