Timeline

Early 90s – My family and I lived in this little yellow cottage from when I was born until 1997. Here, you can see it buried under a thick blanket of typical Buffalo snow.

Early 90s – Reading Archie comics in a tree in the backyard.

Early 90s – Both of my parents were activists in historic preservation, so I spent a lot of my childhood being dragged to various ~functions~ where they spoke through megaphones while I watched in confusion.

Early 90s – During my early childhood, my father operated a few small indie newspapers specializing in political cartoons which, from my understanding, he typeset on his Mac SE. Playing on the Mac’s friendly black and white interface and handling its chunky, single-button mouse was my first exposure to computers.

January 1991 – My sister Ana was born and immediately started plotting world domination.

Early 90s – I loved Superman and The Little Mermaid.

1996 – The Nickelodeon movie Harriet The Spy was released. Based on the children’s novel by Louise Fitzhugh, it chronicled the adventures of an aspiring writer named Harriet. She had a rebellious temperament, a stylish yellow raincoat, and a notebook emblazoned with the word “PRIVATE.” It was a formative piece of media.

Christmas 1997 – Using the CD Player app on my family’s Mac Performa.

2001 – Did you know that Buffalo gets a lot of snow? It does.
